New Year, New Perspectives – Seth Hackney

It’s a new year, folks, and we’ve got some new faces at L&P! Over the next few weeks, we’ll introduce you to several of our most recent hires and their thoughts on the year ahead.

Up first, meet Seth Hackney. He’s a Purchasing Operations Analyst in Corporate Purchasing, and he started his role with L&P in October.

Seth Hackney

What brought you to L&P?
I grew up around Carthage, Missouri, so I have always been familiar with Leggett & Platt. While attending Missouri Southern State University, I noticed Leggett’s active involvement in the community. When the purchasing opportunity came onto my radar, I knew I had to jump on it.

What is something surprising about you?
During my senior year at MSSU, I was an All-American in the shot put! I was one of 12 shot putters in NCAA Division II to throw the qualifying mark to make it to the national championship. Of those 12, I finished in the top 8 during the competition.

What is your biggest goal for 2017?
My role is transitioning into a Buyer position, and simultaneously, we are transitioning to new software. So, my work goal is to get comfortable with that software, since it will be a huge part of what I do as a Buyer. On a personal note, I would love to take at least one vacation with my wife in 2017.

Machine Products: How A Commitment to Safety and Service Brings Success

When you walk through the doors of Machine Products (or Branch 79 as it’s also called), you’re instantly greeted with a down-to-earth warmth. From the friendly “hellos” exchanged on the production floor to the handshakes of a job particularly well done, pride is everywhere among the 90 employees at the facility.

The same sense of pride comes from branch leadership as well. Tom Wells, Jr., Division President, constantly commends his team for stepping up to the plate. “Unlike other Leggett branches that have a constant steady production flow, we do not know from month to month what type of work will come onto our schedule, but we take each day with great stride,” explained Tom.

Leggett & Platt has been a second home to Tom. After his father was hired by Leggett in 1974, Tom started performing janitorial duties during the summers as a teenager. Through the years, he spent most of his career in the Bedding Components Group. After years of hard work, he assumed the role of Division President for Machine Products in 2013.

Pegasus: Launching Growth through Aerospace Acquisitions

Leggett & Platt first took to the skies in 2012 when we entered the aerospace business, and we’ve been gaining altitude ever since. With sales reaching $150 million this year, L&P Aerospace continues to aim high –achieving lofty goals for revenue growth and extending our capabilities.

In February, L&P Aerospace made another giant leap forward with the acquisition of Pegasus Manufacturing, a Connecticut-based producer of fabricated tube and duct assemblies.

Similar to David Hart Aerospace Pipes (DHAP), Pegasus takes tubing manufactured by Western Pneumatic, Valley Metals, and Specitubes, and utilizes on-site welding, brazing, pressure testing, and other technologies to fabricate sophisticated assemblies for customers like Rolls-Royce, General Electric, Boeing and Airbus, Newport News Shipbuilders, and the US Government.

“Pegasus really fits multiple strategic needs,” explained Shannon Ukena, Director of Corporate Development. “This business takes us a step deeper into the supply value chain, gives us a new geographic foothold in a major aerospace hub in the Northeast, and opens us up to some complementary markets for our products.” Continue reading
