Good conversation–there’s nothing better. I’ve always been a fan of people and the stories they tell. I started my career as a Talent Advisor for Leggett & Platt and got to hear good stories every day throughout the hiring process. Now I'm a Communications Manager and find myself telling good stories through writing. When I’m not at work, I enjoy photography–telling my own story from behind a camera lens. I’ve also been known to write a poem or two, which stems from a long-held interest in creative writing. After dreaming up wild characters and fantastical plots as a kid, I guess I just couldn’t keep my ideas in my head any longer. Someday you should ask me about Chester the Mini Dragon.

On August 27, Leggett & Platt hosted the 5th annual Golf Scramble to benefit the Carthage Area United Way. A total of 48 teams – our biggest turnout yet – competed throughout the day in the golf scramble, poker tournament, and hole-in-one and putting contests. Altogether we raised $13,000! We couldn’t have made the day successful without the players, corporate sponsors, and our 50 volunteers. Here are some of our favorite photos from the day!

5 Office Must-Haves: Jim Williams in Accounting

If you want to get to know Leggett & Platt, you should get to know our people first. What better way for you to do that than by seeing a few of their favorite things.

Jim’s role: Staff Vice President in Accounting

Job in a nutshell: Leading a team that ensures the accuracy of Leggett’s financial information, reinforces the integrity of internal controls, and continuously improves existing processes.

Jim Williams FINAL

  1. Calculator – Because I’m an accountant.
  2. Dilbert Calendar – Deadlines are important in accounting: month-end, quarter end, year-end, plus quarterly and yearly audits. This calendar keeps me up-to-date and on track, while Dilbert keeps me laughing.
  3. Red Stapler – It’s a Swingline. I’m honoring a great movie by keeping this stapler on my desk.
  4. Fountain Pen – I write with a fountain pen because it’s like a trip back in time.
  5. Mr. Potato Heads – This is just a sampling of my collection! My first two Mr. Potato Heads were Darth Spud and Spud Trooper from Star Wars. I saw them in an ad and my wife surprised me with them for Christmas. Over the years, my team members have gifted me many others to expand my collection.

Photo Gallery: Environmental Affairs Hosts Second Annual Green Fling

On April 22, our Corporate Conference Center transformed into “The Greatest Show on Earth Day” as the Environmental Affairs team hosted the second annual Green Fling. Employees enjoyed a morning of games, fortune telling, popcorn, cotton candy, music, and giveaways. Various community vendors shared ways we can better care for our environment, offered free plants and trees, and even collected employees’ recyclable household materials on-site. Here are some of our favorite photos!
