DOORS Intern Spotlight: Isaac Ortega

Our thirteenth summer of the DOORS Internship Program is underway! Through virtual workshops, our interns work on goal setting, networking, personal branding, and communication within their fields. We invited our interns to share their experiences this summer.

Meet Isaac Ortega from Jackson, Michigan! Isaac recently graduated from Western Michigan University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Analytics.

What does your internship with Leggett entail?

I’m a Business Analyst contributing to Work Furniture’s Digital Transformation efforts. A large portion of my job involves data management and standardization, which is used for on-demand global report development, allowing stakeholders to make decisions based on clean data.

What is the most valuable thing you’ve learned so far during your time at Leggett?

The most valuable thing I’ve learned so far is adaptability. Throughout my time at Leggett, the team and I have consistently adapted to challenges as they arise. I had a professor in college who always said, “You’re a business major – you’re here to solve problems,” which has turned out to be very true. Developing this problem-solving skill has been very beneficial and is the most valuable thing I’ve learned so far.

What are your goals through your internship?

A technical goal for my internship is to learn how to automate data tasks. I’m hoping to gain experience building a tool that can automatically update, add new customers, new products, send out alerts, etc. By doing this, we can reduce manual work and lighten the team’s workload. I also personally hope to build strong relationships with my team and colleagues from all of our different branches around the world.

What has been your favorite part of your internship at Leggett?

I think my favorite part of the internship will be learning from professionals. I have already worked with several different people who all have their own unique approach to poblem-solving. I know that there is much more to learn in my field, and I expect this will be my favorite part of the internship.

How will you apply your experience this summer to your career?

I will apply my data management skills to clean data and present it in a meaningful way. This enables data to be used for smarter business decisions. Every company has data; however, having the skills to make it understandable and actionable will take me far in my career.

Please join us in wishing Isaac well!
