While the 13th summer of our DOORS Internship Program is underway, internship and apprenticeship opportunities take place across Leggett & Platt year-round. These programs provide valuable hands-on experience and professional development while helping participants build skills for their future careers.

Meet Lysander Szepcsik from St. Gallen, Switzerland! Lysander is in his third year of a polymechanic apprenticeship at Spühl GmbH while also pursuing the Berufsmaturität, a technical academic qualification in Switzerland.

What does your internship with Spühl entail?

We learn to operate mills, lathes, drill presses, and many other machines, including both computer numerical control (CNC) and conventional equipment. We also gain experience working in assembly.

What is the most valuable thing you’ve learned, so far, during your time with Spühl?

I think the most valuable thing I’ve learned so far is to work with different people on technical projects.

What are your goals through your apprenticeship?

My goal is to complete my apprenticeship on our five-axis milling machine and successfully finish my studies so I can pursue a career in engineering or a similar field.

What has been your favorite part of your apprenticeship at Spühl?

I really like it here. I will definitely miss the coworkers and fellow apprentices I’ve worked with. I also enjoy working on different machines and challenging myself to achieve high levels of precision and tight tolerances.

How will you apply your experience to your future career?

I will most likely continue my studies in mechanical engineering or pursue additional training in a technical field.
