DOORS Intern Spotlight: Sebastian Lopez

Our thirteenth summer of the DOORS Internship Program is underway! Through virtual workshops, our interns work on goal setting, networking, personal branding, and communication within their fields. We invited our interns to share their experiences this summer.

Meet Sebastian Lopez! Sebastian was born in Venezuela and lives in Gainesville, Florida. He recently earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida and will begin pursuing a Master of Arts in Econometrics and Data Analysis this fall.

What does your internship with Leggett entail?

I am a Finance Intern with Hanes Companies, where I collaborate on a variety of projects under the guidance of Senior Finance Director Stephen Griffin. My responsibilities include analyzing financial data, standardizing reporting processes, validating information, and developing tools that improve efficiency across the organization.

What is the most valuable thing you’ve learned so far during your time at Leggett?

One of the most valuable lessons I have learned during my internship is the importance of being willing to learn, ask questions, and step outside of my comfort zone. It can be intimidating to ask for help or admit when you do not know something; however, I have found that the people at Leggett are always willing to share their knowledge and support others. This experience has taught me that curiosity and engagement are among the best ways to grow professionally.

What are your goals through your internship?

My goal throughout this internship is to learn as much as possible from my mentors and colleagues, apply that knowledge to meaningful projects, and contribute ideas that help improve existing processes. I hope to make a positive impact on the organization while continuing to develop both my technical and professional skills.

What has been your favorite part of your internship at Leggett?

I expect my favorite part of the internship will be working on my final intern project. It will give me the opportunity to reflect on everything I have accomplished throughout the summer, the challenges I have overcome, and the valuable lessons I have learned along the way. It will also allow me to recognize the relationships I have built and the experiences that have shaped both my personal and professional growth.

How will you apply your experience this summer to your career?

This internship has provided me with valuable real-world experience that goes far beyond what can be learned in a classroom. As I return to graduate school this fall, I will be able to apply the analytical, problem-solving, and professional skills I have developed to my coursework. Looking ahead, this experience has strengthened my interest in using data and finance to drive business decisions and has provided a strong foundation for my future career.

Please join us in wishing Sebastian well!
