Our thirteenth summer of the DOORS Internship Program is underway! Through virtual workshops, our interns work on goal setting, networking, personal branding, and communication within their fields. We invited our interns to share their experiences this summer.
Meet Carmen Valle Dalton from Joplin, Missouri! Carmen is a rising sophomore at Columbia University in NYC, majoring in Chemical Engineering.
What does your internship with Leggett entail?
I am an intern for the Sustainability Team, where I contribute to the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives. I support sustainability projects and work with the team on internal efforts to promote sustainable business practices across the organization.
What is the most valuable thing you’ve learned so far during your time at Leggett?
The most important thing I have learned working here so far, aside from strengthening my collaborative and technical skills, has been my experience in developing the global sustainability policy. Having the opportunity to see how these policies will be implemented across the facilities at Leggett & Platt has been incredibly valuable.
What are your goals through your internship?
My goal for this internship is to work hard and be proud of what I accomplish during my time here. I want to help and do as much as I can for the team.
What has been your favorite part of your internship at Leggett?
My favorite part of this experience has been meeting new people across different departments and seeing how welcoming everyone is.
How will you apply your experience this summer to your career?
As a scientist, I plan to use my experience in corporate sustainability to guide me toward a career in renewable energy research. I have learned that understanding how sustainable processes are implemented is just as important as the experimentation and design of those processes. That perspective is something I will carry forward from this amazing internship experience.
Please join us in wishing Carmen well!
